Valjoux 237

Cal. 237 is a flyback chronograph movement with date produced by Valjoux between 1971 and 1974. It is extremely rare, with just 300 said to be produced in that time. It is part of the Valjoux 72 family of movements and can be thought of as an enhanced version of Valjoux Cal. 23 “VZ”. It is closely related to Valjoux Cal. 235.

Valjoux 237 Functions

There is conflicting information about the functions of Cal. 237. It would appear to be similar to Cal. 234 and 235, with a 30 minute counter at 3:00 and small seconds at 9:00 plus a date window at 6:00. Wakmann, at least, produced a watch with this configuration.

However Le Phare and Lorenz, at least, produced regatta timers with Cal. 237 that have a regatta timer window at 3:00 and date at 9:00 with no running seconds.

Valjoux 23/72 Family Movements

The Valjoux Cal. 23/72 family was primarily made up of eight movements, with all others being variations on these. Many components are shared between most or all of these movements, with the main variations happening together over the long production of the series.
