The 82/8N series of movements is the original automatic movement from Miyota, in production from 1976 through the present day. It operates at 21,600 A/h and most have 21 jewels. The automatic winding versions have uni-directional (counter-clockwise) winding.
Distinguishing features of the 82/8N series include a single central screw for the central winding rotor and a simple index for regulation. The balance wheel is located at 5:00 when viewed with the winding stem at 9:00 and is located with a clockwise cock.
All members of the Miyota 82 family have indirect central seconds, which causes a noticeable wobble to the central seconds hand. When struck, the seconds hand can appear to pause for up to 2 seconds due to slack in the movement.
The entire movement is held together with just 3 screws, aiding in construction but making repair more difficult.
