The Eterna-Matic 3000 movement family is the predecessor of today’s leading ETA 2890 family. It is a thin central-rotor automatic movement with day and date complications integrated with the basic movement. Introduced in 1962, it was a remarkably-thin movement for the time, measuring 3.60 mm, or 4.15 mm thick with day and date. Later versions operated at 21,600 A/h or 28,800 A/h.
The design was thoroughly refreshed in 1975 as the new ETA Flatline 2890 Family, including the famous Cal. 2892. Among other changes the diameter was reduced from 13”’ to 12.5”’, and this was reduced further to 11.5”’ as the ETA 2892-2 in 1983.
