TAG Heuer 1887

TAG Heuer Calibre 1887 (also known as Calibre Heuer-01) is an automatic chronograph movement launched in 2009. TAG Heuer based the architecture of the movement on the Seiko TC78 platform (also used in Seiko 6S37), purchasing exclusive rights for European manufacture in 2006. It is completely manufactured in-house by TAG Heuer and includes many changes from the original Seiko design.

Importantly, Cal. 1887 uses an oscillating pinion for chronograph engagement, a signature invention of Edouard Heuer and a feature of most classic Heuer watch movements from Landeron, Vénus, and Valjoux.

Introduced in 2010, TAG Heuer advertised Cal. 1887 as “our first in-house movement” and claims “Swiss Made” branding. The company re-launched the movement in 2015 as a skeletonized version now called Calibre Heuer-01.

All current examples of Calibre Heuer 01 are skeletonized.
