BVL 362

Cal. 362 is an ultra-thin hand-winding minute repeater movement produced by Bulgari. Introduced at Baselworld in 2016 in the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater, it was just 0.02 mm thicker than the classic Vacheron Constantin Hour lounge, the thinnest minute repeater ever produced, and far thinner than contemporary competitors. The watch was 6.85 mm thick overall, the thinnest such watch.

Cal. BVL 362 is much narrower than the case

Although just 3.12 mm thick, this movement was much thicker than the previous Finissimo haute horology movement, the tourbillon Cal. BVL 268. For this reason, Bulgari did not resort to exotic rim ball bearings and was able to use 36 conventional jewels to mount the wheel train. It is also the narrowest Finissimo movement at 12.5 ligne (28.50 mm), reducing the total volume to 1,990 mm3, only slightly more than the exotic Tourbillon.

The Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater is unusual in many ways. Not only is the movement smaller in diameter than all other Finissimo movements but the seconds subdial is located at the conventional 6:00 position rather than at 7:30 as on the typical Finissimo. The dial serves as a resonator for the minute repeater, and the indices on the dial are cut outs for sound propagation.

Cal. BVL 362 Applications

Cal. BVL 362 was produced in extremely limited numbers. It was used in 2016 in the original Minute Repeater and again in 2018 in the Carbon Thin Ply (CTP) Minute Repeater Carbon. It was also used in a women’s model, the Diva Finissima Minute Repeater, that year.
